Geolocation – Flickr

December 31st, 2008 Leave a comment Go to comments

Here is a quick tip if you like to geotag your photos.  If you use Flickr and your tagging process puts the coordinates into the image Exif information there is a setting you have to change in your Flickr account.  This will ensure your photos show on the map properly.  Keep in mind any privacy concerns when supplying tagged photos.  It may not matter when shooting public material. But you might not want to give away the location of your home.

  1. Log into Flickr
  2. Pull down the Menu next to “You”
  3. Select “Your Account”
  4. Click “Privacy and Permissions”
  5. Scroll down to the defaults for new uploads section
  6. Change the “Import EXIF location data” to Yes

Any suggestions for a small GPS unit and software for doing geotagging? My car's gps does not put track information to the computer (that wasn't something I thought I needed when I bought it). Besides, it is a bit large, and the battery life is limited.

I would like something small (so it can be clipped to the bag, or belt), and long stand alone battery life (6 hours or more).

Any suggestions? (maybe a topic for a segment??)

    Hi Philip,

We'll work on this one. We reviewed one over at friendintech a while back and it was junk. Maybe the current generation of devices is better.

    Sincerely,
    George
